Along the journey to Tunnels

The journey to Cu Chi Tunnels was tiring indeed...But the sights that we had during the journey were simply breathtaking, wonderful and makes you go WOW! Some of these sights can only be dreamt of in Singapore....but here its everywhere.

The mountain you see in this photo is called the Ba Den Mountain.Ba Den Mount is a well-known landscape of Tay Ninh, highest in South Eastern (986 m). The mountain is formed by granite and granodionite. Therefore the mount is rather sharp and sloppy with three heights: Ba Den (986m), Phung Mount ( 372m) and Heo Mount (335m).
Ba Den Mountain is also called Black Lady Mountain. According to legends, beautiful Ly Thi Thien Huong, Black Lady, was forced to marry the son of a rich mandarin while she fell in love with a poor man who was fighting the aggressors. Rather than marrying a man she did not love, she threw herself from the mountain.Ba Den Mountain Spring Festival in lunar new year, cable car system to the mountain top, the first one in Vietnam, majestic landscape, fresh air and along with system of natural lakes, caves and forest and cultural villages, all has made Ba Den Mountain become an attractive tourist site luring about 1 million visitors coming every year.Several shrines and pagodas were built in the mountain as well as in the caves. Ba and Hang Pagodas attract many pilgrims during the New Lunar Year
and Vu Lan Festivals.

Where else can you see a herd of cattle? Of course in Vietnam!!

These are the rubber trees where rubber tapping is carried out. It contributes to the vietnamese economy in terms of export. This picture was taken when travelling to the Cao Dai Temple.

Cu Chi Tunnels

Last Sunday after visiting the Cao Dai Temple, we went to Cu Chi Tunnels. This place was where the vietnamese guerillas created a tunnel system which was used to fight against the Americans. The tunnels were extremely small during those times. The guerillas created this tunnels so small that only the people of their size could enter and crawl along it. Some of the turns in the tunnels lead to dead ends which were booby-trapped with metal spikes.

This was where a B-52 bomber aircraft dropped a bomb. The explosion created a huge crater which is still clearly visible until today.

This is a picture of me with a vietnamese guerilla.

Cao Dai Temple

Last Sunday all 12 of us went on a tour to Cao Dai temple and Cu Chi Tunnels. We boarded a chartered bus at Backpackers' Street at about 8 am. The journey to the temple took 3.5 hrs. But in between we stopped over at a pottery making factory for a break. Soon we were back on the small bus, heading towards the temple. Upon reaching the temple, we toured the area and took photos...the below photo is a special one....It was taken at the edge of the temple surroundings. We are the 12 of the students from NTU who are participating in the Global Immersion Programme at Vietnam.
The Cao Dai religion is a combination of four religions namely Buddhism, Hindhuism, Confucianism and Catholicism. This photo was taken during the afternoon prayers which are usually conducted 4 times a week at about 12pm.
